History: Imbros was on a reconnaissance mission on his own when the Elder Brain of his colony was killed. He's still perplexed that no one saw the threat coming, one moment everything was fine and then Imbros was fully aware of what was happening via the hivemind. Unfortunately (or fortunately as it would turn out) he was too far away to do anything about it, and the Elder Brain was eventually killed. When that happened all the Mind Flayers, Thralls, Intellect Devourers and anything else under the Elder Brain's control was killed. Except Imbros who was far enough out of reach that he was instead horribly injured and psychically damaged. With that connection, and control, severed, he woke up with all the memories of the hivemind as normal - but with an extra set he didn't want or ask for: the memories of the body that was used as his host. A male Drow wizard, that he was disturbed to find out was also named Imbros. As more time passes the memories of the hivemind are diminishing and the memories of the Drow he used to be along with the things he actually experienced are growing stronger.

After being totally alone for the first time in his entire existence, he started trying to regain some of his lost knowledge by plundering abandoned libraries and living in them, reading the entire contents before moving onto the next abandoned manor. This is where his campaign started with a group of 5 adventurers literally falling through the ceiling onto him and basically adopting him and forcing him into their capers. Because they found him when he was still recovering from the Elder Brain's death he was at very low power and pretty injured, he couldn't just psychic blast them away or mind control them to leave, and by the time he was healed enough to do either of those things it was too late. It was now a group of 6 adventurers whether he liked it or not.

CW: Body Horror
Being an Illithid his canon has a metric ton of body horror stuff in it which I will warn for in threads if he talks about it. He also does straight up eat people, specifically he eats brains and consumes memories. He won't be doing that to player characters and I will... figure something out when the time comes for him to eat something (or he'll starve, that's fine too). Fortunately he only needs to eat every few months.

I'm also going to nerf his telepathy where he can talk to people telepathically but can't read minds of any played characters.

Personality: He can be cold and distant and aloof as he's spent the last century and a half as a mind flayer fully convinced of their superiority over everything. However he's also a scholar who desires more and more knowledge constantly. Which means he's curious about everything and everyone, and has a crippling desire for books that will lure him into being more social. He doesn't actually dislike people, he's just never had any need for them and Illithid society is not set up for friendships or even alliances. It may be a hivemind but there's a lot of backstabbing and betrayal going on as they all vie to be the one with the most power. And his former life as a Drow is much the same, though worse as a male where he was basically discarded and eventually slotted for death.

Now that he's free of the Elder Brain and can have autonomy, he has to deal with both his Drow life and his Illithid life. The Drow memories and his lived experiences now feel like his memories, and the ones he consumed and absorbed from the hive mind are fading away. Which frightens him and is part of the reason he's so obsessed with studying and taking in information - he feels like he had this wealth of infinite knowledge through the elder brain and it's now slowly disappearing.

Initial Game Plan: He will first need to be dragged kicking and screaming out of the library, but then he'll want to explore and to learn as much as he can. He needs to be reintegrated into society like a feral cat, but he really wants to not be dead, so he'll do whatever he can to protect this place if that's what needs to be done.

RP Interests: He needs to get to know people from all different kinds of backgrounds so he can snap out of his "Illithids are the best" mindset because deep down he knows they kinda suck. What with the whole mind control and being beholden to an Elder Brain. He's set in his ways (he's 330 years old afterall) but he's genuinely curious about everything so he has the capacity to take on new information and change. Though that said negative CR is totally welcome since he's also an egotistical dick who's committed some downright atrocities in his past. And while he's a very powerful Psion, he's also a spindly squid man who could be snapped in half like a twig if anyone got close.

Preferred Job:Not sure yet! He's a scholar so something literary. Though if anyone needs a scribe he can also read/write and understand a few dozen languages and dialects (all Forgotten Realms based) though he can only speak 3 himself.
NSFW-friendly?: Likely not. Tho if anyone is up to an S-Tier challenge for this one they're welcome to try.
